High school students and their parents from throughout Northeast Pennsylvania are invited to attend The Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC) Northeast Regional College Fair on Monday, April 28 at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza. Designed as a public service to benefit high school sophomores, juniors and their parents, this event is free and open to the public. No advanced registration is required.

More than 180 representatives from colleges and universities throughout the eastern United States and parts of the Midwest are expected to attend. Representatives from seven financial lending institutions also will be available.

The fair will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and from 6:00-8:00 p.m. College admissions counselors will be available during the day and in the evening, and financial aid officers will be available to answer questions.

In addition, parents and students are invited to attend an evening workshop, “What You Need to Know about Financial Aid,” held at 6:00 p.m. Ellen McGuire, Director of Financial Aid at King’s College, will provide an overview of the financial aid process. Parents will gain a greater understanding of the financial aid process, the forms required and what questions to ask about financial aid.

Parents and their children are encouraged to attend the evening college fair session together, said Mason.

“Applying to college today involves careful planning,” she said. “Students and their parents have to start earlier, learn more and consider more options. This fair is a good first step in the process.
“We decided to create this fair as a way to show more of our area high school students that they can choose to attend two- and four-year institutions and to show them the great variety of colleges and universities that are available to them,” she said. “Many of the admissions counselors who plan to be at the fair also read the applications they receive from students in this area. This fair is a good opportunity to meet those counselors and talk to them.”
Mason suggested that students who want to request information from many colleges bring pre-printed labels with their names, addresses, intended major, year of graduation and high school name to reduce time spent in filling out forms.

Students and parents interested in getting more information about this fair may contact their school guidance counselors. High schools throughout the region are encouraged to make arrangements to transport their students to the fair during the morning hours. School guidance counselors interested in arranging transportation for their students for the morning session may contact Michelle Lawrence-Schmude, King’s College Admissions Office, at 208-5858 for more information and registration forms.

Financial lending institutions interested in participating in the fair may contact Mason at 270-2106.
