Homecoming Weekend

Alumni Service Award Winners announced at Homecoming

Seniors Renata O’Donnell of Wilkes-Barre and Eric Cholish of Exton received the 2011 Alumni Service Awards during Wyoming Seminary’s Homecoming festivities Oct. 1. The award recognizes exceptional student leadership and service to the campus community. O’Donnell and Cholish were two of eight seniors nominated for this year’s coveted alumni award. Nominees also included Sean Banul of Pittston, Bethany Brody of Edwardsville, Joshua Greenberg of Wilkes-Barre, Logan May of Dallas, Seo Jin Oh of Seoul, South Korea and Amy Shick of Mountain Top. Rosenthal Named Outstanding Young Alumnus

Stephen Rosenthal of Kingston, a 1993 graduate of Wyoming Seminary, received the 2011 Outstanding Young Alumnus Award at Sem’s Homecoming festivities Oct. 1. He was recognized for his exceptional, ongoing volunteer service and many contributions to the school, as well as his professional accomplishments. Rosenthal has been an active representative of the Class of 1993 and served as the national co-chair of the 2010-11 Annual Fund Campaign. He is a past president of the Sem Alumni Council and serves on the President’s Council. Read more >>>

Sem inducts six alumni athletes into Hall of Fame

The Wyoming Seminary Varsity Club recently honored six Sem alumni for their outstanding athletic achievements during its 36th Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony and banquet.  The 2011 honorees and their respective sports are:  James A. Antinnes, Class of 1986, soccer/basketball; Alana Anzalone, Class of 2000, field hockey/swimming; Quentin Harris, Class of 1997, football; Liza Rosenthal Rudick, Class of 1989, girls athletics; Matthew Walsh, Class of 1989, football; and Anne Zinkavich, Class of 1999, girls athletics. Sem alumni return for career assembly

Four Wyoming Seminary alumni recently returned to the Upper School campus to discuss their college educations and career tracks with the Upper School student body during the annual Career Assembly. The speakers, whose occupations include teaching, engineering, financial advisement and law, described their college searches, how they felt about the universities they attended and the paths they took to their current positions. The assembly is held each year during Homecoming Weekend.

Seen following the career assembly are, from left: Clem Gover ’00, Lehman, Wells Fargo Financial Advisor; Alana Anzalone ’00, Boulder, Colo., Anzalone Law Office and recruiter and financial aid consultant, College Prospects of America; Linda Steel van Sickle ’96, Lewisberry, structural engineer with Center Point Engineering; and C.J. Libassi ’06, Washington, D.C., global language teacher in Teach for America at the Oakcrest Elementary School, Prince Georges County, Md.

Founders Day features address on Public Service by Frank Carlucci '48

Public service was the main theme of the annual Founders Day assembly, held recently at the Upper School and featuring Frank Carlucci '48, former Secretary of Defense, as the main speaker.

Public service was the main theme of the annual Founders Day assembly, held recently at Wyoming Seminary Upper School. The featured speaker was Frank C. Carlucci III, a member of the Sem Class of 1948 and Secretary of Defense in 1987-89 during the Reagan Administration. Carlucci, who has served in high-level positions in the Foreign Service, State Department, Defense Department and Central Intelligence Agency, presented insight into his years of service to the United States and encouraged the Upper School students to pursue opportunities in public service. Pugazhendhi named National Merit Semifinalist

Adithya Pugazhendhi ’12 has been named a 2012 National Merit Semifinalist. He also received perfect scores on all three sections of the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. He now has the opportunity to continue in the competition for about 8,300 Merit Scholarship Awards, worth more than $34 million, that will be offered next spring. In addition, Sean Banul, Brandon Bombe, Kelsey Dolhon and Logan May, all seniors, have been named Commended Students for 2012.


Sem's National Merit Commended Students announced

Four Wyoming Seminary seniors have been named Commended Students in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship competition, said Jay Harvey '80, Dean of the Upper School.

The students are Sean Banul, Pittston; Brandon Bombe, Exeter; Kelsey Dolhon, Kingston; and Logan May, Dallas.           

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2012 competition by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Class Notes:

Lucie Povova ’11, who attends Northeastern University, has been named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Co-Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday, October 24. Povova scored two goals and assisted three others in Northeastern’s 7-0 rout at Yale. Lucia tipped in the Huskies’ first goal of the season on Oct. 7 against Syracuse. The native of Cizkovice, Czech Republic, is tied for second on the team with eight points, with three goals and five assists through six games.
