PERFORMING ARTS EVENTS AT SEM:
Sem Presents! "William Shakespeare's Long Lost First Play," by the Reduced Shakespeare Company, on Friday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirby Center for Creative Arts. Described by the Washington Post as a "breathlessly irreverent and pun-filled romp, the show is a brilliant comedic mash-up of William Shakespeare's most well-known characters, lines, speeches and plots." The Pa. Music Educators' Association (PMEA) , Region 4 will present a day-long String Festival on Tuesday, March 28. The concluding concert will be at 7:00 p.m. in the Kirby Center for Creative Arts. Tickets are $1 for students and $3 for adults. Call 570-270-2192 for information.
The 11th annual PAI Musical Theater Scholarship Competition will be held on Sunday, April 2 at 3:30 p.m. in Sem's Kirby Center for Creative Arts. Several students will compete in performance for three PAI musical theater scholarships to attend this year's PAI Musical Theater program. This performance is open to the public; tickets are available in advance, on line or at the door and are $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are $30 per person to attend a pre-performance gala reception and the performance. For more information call 570-270-2190.
The 2017 Chamber Music Festival will feature the music of Gabriel Fauré on Saturday, April 8 at 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kirby Center for Creative Arts. Free and open to the public. For more information call 570-270-2190.
A rare performance of the unique Czech children's opera "Brundibar" will be performed in English as part of the Sem Music Department's spring concert on Sunday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kirby Center for Creative Arts. The Sem Chorale, Madrigal Singers and String Ensemble will be featured in the performance. Free and open to the public. For more information call 570-270-2190.
The Wyoming Seminary Players will present the outlandish comedy "The Nerd" by Larry Shue on Friday and Saturday, April 28-29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Buckingham Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $3.00 in advance and $4.00 at the door. For more information call 570-270-2190.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Upper school students, faculty and staff will conduct a second trial run of the new class schedule for a 14-day period, beginning Monday, March 27 and ending on Thursday, April 13 (click here to see the schedule). The new class schedule will go into effect in the 2017-18 school year.
The sixth annual Sem Dance Marathon is almost here! Sem DM will be held on Saturday, April 1 from 4-11 p.m. and will raise money for the Geisinger Janet Weis Children's Hospital in Danville and the Children's Miracle Network. Watch your email for more information and click here to support the fundraising drive.
Easter Recess dates: Friday, April 14-Sunday, April 16; classes resume on Monday, April 17.

Mock trial team wins regional title
The Wyoming Seminary Mock Trial team will advance to the State Mock Trial Competition after defeating Nazareth High School in the 2017 Region 5 (East Central Championship) High School Mock Trial Competition. Click here for more.
Wrestling and swim teams conclude seasons
The Sem wrestling team recently took second place in the National Prep High School Wrestling Tournament, held at Lehigh University. Click here for more.
In addition, the girls and boys swim teams competed in the PIAA State Swim Meet, wrapping up a season noted for many new records, a district title and state medals. Click here for more.
Science Research Group wins awards at conference
The Science Research Group recently presented its projects at the Northeast Regional Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Conference at Wilkes University. The students earned four First Awards (two with Perfect Scores) and three Second Awards. Sophomore Moyasar Osman received the First Award, Perfect Score and Excellence Award in Senior High Biochemistry; junior Yunru Zheng received a First Award, Perfect Score in Mathematics; senior Reeya Lele received a First Award in Microbiology; and sophomore Nikolai Stefanov received a First Award in Mathematics. Second Award winners are: sophomore Lauren Fletcher, Behavioral Science; freshman Rounak Lele, Engineering; and freshman Jay Pande, Botany.
Math Club wins at King's College competition
The Sem Math Club recently competed in the Pennsylvania section of the 2017 Newton Math Competition, held at King's College. The Math Club team of senior Connor McGowan, junior Yunru Zheng, junior Matthew Bolan and senior Roy Phillips won first place in team competition, while the team of junior Yuxi Zhou, sophomore Nikolai Stefanov and freshman Tianwei Li came in second. McGowan also won first place in the individual competition, while Li placed second, Zheng placed fifth and Zhou placed eighth. All individual winners receive four-year renewable scholarships to King's College.
Commencement Weekend May 27-28
For parents of seniors and postgraduates: It's not too soon to start thinking about Baccalaureate and Commencement, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 27-28. Parents may also choose to order Commencement announcements online before March 31 from Sem's communication office.

The Scoop from STEM
The STEM School's next STEM Saturday at Sem event will be held on Earth Day, April 22 from 9-11 a.m. on the Upper School campus. The event will be geared to students in grades 7-12 and is free and open to the public. Watch your email for more details.
