Dress Down Reminders
We will be out of uniform several times in the coming days:

 

Thursday, October 26 is Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the lower school. Students may dress down in pink or any Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirt for a $2.00 donation.

 

Friday, October 27 is SEM Spirit Day. Please show your spirit by dressing in blue and white or SEM Gear.

 

Tuesday, October 31 is Halloween. Primary Students will wear their costumes for the parade beginning at 8:45 a.m. Middle School students will enjoy their pizza parties and another SEM Spirit dress down day on Halloween.

 

 

Vineyard Vines Fundraiser

Parent Teacher Conferences

WSLS All-School Conferences will be held on Thursday, November 2 and Friday, November 3. Thursday will be a noon dismissal and busing will be available; there is no aftercare. There is no school on Friday.

Parents are asked to please schedule your conference online. Please read the following directions carefully.


1.) Click the following link: Fall Conferences
2.) Double-click the form for the teacher you want to schedule with.

3.) You may have to click the "pop-out" icon at the top of the page. (It is a small square with an arrow in the top right corner, located between the magnifying glass icon and the "X" icon on the top right side of your screen.
)
4.) Once the screen is opened all the way, you may begin typing in it. You will note that there are a finite number of time slots. If there are no more times available, or if you would like to schedule a different day/time to meet with your teacher, please contact them directly to make those arrangements.
5.) Please do not edit/change someone else's time slot.

Sordoni Library-MAKERSPACE

  

Please join us on "Makerspace" Mondays at 7:45-8:15 a.m. in the Sordoni Library beginning on October 30.
Make! Create! Innovate! Students will have access to materials that will encourage them to build, design, craft, and be creative.
Students will be inventing projects and sharing with other students in this collaborative environment. These hands-on experiences will be great for our thinkers and tinkers!

After-School Enrichment

 

The After-School Enrichment Program is underway with our second session, offering a wonderful selection of classes, including something for everyone! Please take a look at the classes available for students from kindergarten through grade five and please sign up here. For LEGO details open here.


The Wednesday LEGO class is full and can not accept additional students.

 

Guest Speaker

 

Cindy Pierce, a well known Comedic Storyteller /Speaker who has spoken at many independent schools, will be coming to Wyoming Seminary on October 25-26. During her time at Sem, she will speak to various groups of students, tailoring each presentation to be age appropriate and engaging.

Parents and Adults: October 25, 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the KCCA

 

Adults are invited to attend a parent session tonight from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the KCCA. Cindy will provide valuable research-based information about some of the issues facing our children and her suggestions on navigating a path forward. This presentation is open to the public. We hope that you will attend and bring other parents who might find this information helpful. By including parents in these discussions, we strengthen our partnership and further support our students in and out of the classroom.

 

Office Update

 

Please join us in wishing Jill Moran the best of luck and good thoughts as she begins her maternity leave. Jill's expected return date is mid-January. Congratulations!

Dress Code Reminders

As the cold weather arrives, please note the following dress code expectations:
 
PRIMARY DIVISION
• Only Sem Attire sweaters/fleeces may be worn during the day - these do not require the embroidered Wyoming Seminary logo
• Solid leggings are permitted (blue or white only)
*October 31 is the last day for which shorts are permitted
 
MIDDLE-SCHOOL DIVISION 
• No athletic-style sweatshirts or hooded jackets are permitted during the school day. Any sweaters or jackets worn on top of Sem attire during the school day MUST be solid navy, white or maize color but do not require the Wyoming Seminary logo. Patterned or multi-colored sweaters are not permitted.
• Socks/tights are required with shoes or sneakers from November through March.
• Sneakers may be worn all year
• Collared shirts are required under crewneck sweaters.
• Solid-colored leggings are permitted under Sem Attire skirts or jumpers in lieu of tights or pantyhose.
*October 31 is the last day for which shorts are permitted 

 

The following also applies to students in the Middle-School Division with respect to dress code. After three dress code violations a middle-school student will have to serve a detention. Please visit our website for more information on the Dress Code Policy.

 

Gertrude Hawk Chocolate Update

The annual Gertrude Hawk candy sale is under way. There are two ways to submit your order:
 
1.) You may submit an order online by clicking here and entering group code 123500. If you choose to order online you may have items shipped directly to your home.



2.) You can also use the paper order form that was sent home several weeks ago. Paper orders are due back today, October 25 and will be shipped to the school around November 15.

Original Works

The ordering packets for Original Works are on their way home in your student's backpack. Primary students will have artwork included in their packet and middle-school students will have a blank piece of paper to do their artwork independently. These products make great holiday gifts! Ordering instructions are included in the packets and due by November 3. Please make checks payable to WSLSPA. Register for The Cardboard Challenge on October 28!

Children in elementary and middle-school grades are invited to attend Sem's fifth annual "Global Cardboard Challenge/Sem Day of Play STEM on Saturday, October 28 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Lower School. This event is free and open to the public. Participants need to register here.

This event is based on the worldwide Global Cardboard Challenge, first issued by The Imagination Foundation in 2012, thanks to a nine-year-old boy, Caine Monroy, who created a cardboard arcade in Los Angeles.

During the program, participants will have the opportunity to create a hydraulic arm, Halloween costume, interactive structure, or whatever they wish. Participants are also encouraged to begin building their own cardboard projects in advance and bring their creations to the event to share with the group. Come innovate, invent, and play!

 

There will be a bake sale sponsored by our Blue and White Teams during this event.

 

Entry for to Cardboard Challenge will be at the back of the Lower School through the Atwood Glass Foyer.

American Girl Doll Bingo

The American Girl Doll Bingo is SOLD OUT! Thank you for supporting this fun, community event. Please enter through the Monet Garden door from the front parking lot. Doors will open at 12:45 p.m. and bingo will begin at 1:15 p.m. Please stop at the Sordoni Library desk to check-in and to receive your bingo cards. Let's get ready to play B-I-N-G-O!

Science Olympiad

Sem Closet

  

The Parents Association maintains a closet of gently used Sem attire in the Mural Room closet. The prices are very reasonable and the value is great! Please consider donating your gently used Sem attire. Donations can be brought into the Main Office or given to Mrs. Ruggiero.
