Learning to Use Family Connection

Wyoming Seminary's College Guidance Office would like to welcome you to the college process. While Senior Year is only just begun, it is important to understand that the race to apply to college is already in full swing. Application numbers continue to rise at colleges all over the country, especially the selective ones that Seminary students find attractive. While many students will understandably feel stressed trying to manage college applications as well as school and extra-curricular activities, please remember to work closely with your counselor! We are available to you every day, and are more than happy to help you plan and execute your college search. This year we will be offering students and their families some new services to help you make the most of the brief time remaining with which you can research, apply to and ultimately enroll in the college that will be the perfect match for you.

Many students and families are not sure of just how many colleges to apply to. There are lots of different factors that go into this decision, but it is very likely that you will apply to several different schools, which can be a time consuming, detail oriented process. One of the best things that seniors can do to leverage their time and efforts is to begin work on the Common Application. This is a single application that can be submitted to over 390 different colleges and universities (students learned all about the Common Application in College Seminar during their junior year). The 2011-2012 Common App has been available since August 1, and students who get a jump start on preparing these applications will save a lot of time during the school year (when time is a scarcer resource).

In 2010-11, over 1 million students made use of the Common App, and the number will surely rise this year. At Wyoming Seminary, the College Counseling staff is always available to proofread essays and applications, and if you start work now you can avoid the rush!
