Wyoming Seminary's sixth annual Dance Marathon, or SemDM, held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 on Wyoming Seminary's Carpenter Athletic Center in Kingston, exceeded this year's donation goal of $20,000 and raised a total of $26,630.75 for the Geisinger Janet Weis Childrens' Hospital and the Childrens' Miracle Network (watch video highlights, above). Over the past six years, the SemDM has raised nearly $100,000 for the cause. The SemDM was organized by Wyoming Seminary's student government and months of planning and involvement of the entire school community preceded the event.
Five "miracle families" from the Janet Weis Hospital in Danville attended the event and each family shared their story of how the hospital changed their lives for the better. Members of the student government and Student Life Director Mr. Harry Shafer planned dances and activities over a six-hour span that included students, faculty and staff, and the miracle families. Highlights were multiple group dances, faculty pie-in-the-face auction, selfie booth, and the introduction of the five miracle families.
