Wyoming Seminary College Guidance
Preparing students for a successful college career
(academically, socially and personally) is central to Sem's mission.
Typically, graduates enter four-year colleges or universities; each
year at least 75 percent are accepted at institutions ranked as "most,"
"highly" or "very" competitive by Barron's Profiles of American Colleges and Universities.
With
an emphasis on individual attention and finding the right school for each student, Sem’s
college guidance program exposes students to a wide variety of colleges and universities. The class of 2009, for example, enrolled in over 90
different colleges.
Each student is assigned a college counselor during their sophomore year. Our approach is proactive and developmental in nature, with an emphasis on fit; finding the best college for each individual. Seniors are counseled on how to choose appropriate colleges and
how to complete applications; juniors participate in a trimester-long college seminar class which teaches them how to identify
colleges that will empower them to grow academically and personally;
and counselors have group and individual meetings with sophomores to give them ideas on how to start the
college search. Sem hosts visiting college and
university representatives throughout the fall, and counselors visit colleges throughout the United
States and Canada.
