Wyoming Seminary Lower School Parents Association (WSLSPA)

Welcome to all Lower School parents!

Your help is needed - click here to volunteer today!

Every parent or guardian of a child who attends the Lower School is a member of the Parents Association.
The purpose of the WSLSPA is to advance the interests and promote the welfare of the Lower School.
We provide opportunities that offer fellowship among teachers, parents and students. We raise money to purchase items for the school that are otherwise not budgeted for, such as the faculty wishlist; and we contribute annually to the Wallace F. Stettler Lower School Scholarship Fund.

The Board of Directors meets regularly; see schedule below. Directors and officers each serve two-year terms. All meetings are open – please join us!

The WSLSPA welcomes the involvement of all parents and guardians. If you would like to volunteer, please contact a board member or event chairperson. Watch the school’s monthly online newsletter for volunteer opportunities.

WSLSPA meetings are opened and parents can attend any of the monthly association meetings. Meetings occur on the second Tuesday of every month in the Powell Conference Room (first floor) at 1:00 p.m. Check below for the dates for this year:

Parent Education: From time to time the WSLSPA helps to sponsor visiting professionals to the Wyoming Seminary community in conjunction with the Office of Alumni and Development and the Upper School Parents Association. One recent speaker was Harvard Scholar and Sem alumnus Howard Gardner, Ph.D., author of “Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences.” Watch for the Lower School e-newsletter and Sem e-mails for information about this year’s event.

Sem Attire Swap (Ongoing) - This exchange program allows parents to donate and purchase gently used Sem Attire at a discount. Stop by the admission office to see what items of clothing are available.

Book Fair (October 20-26) - This weeklong event – held in the Lower School Sordoni Library – allows students, preschool through eighth grade, to purchase books and related items at a discount. The proceeds from this sale are used to purchase books, videos and equipment for the library. Please visit the Book Fair page...

ORIGINAL WORKS ART PROJECT – (Fall) Each year, the Parents Association enables students – with the help of the school’s art department – to create artwork that is reproduced in a professional product. This year, students will create items from note cards to mugs, perfect for holiday giving.

Sem Goes Shopping (November 30 - December 4) - The WSLSPA sets up a gift shop at school so that students have the opportunity to surprise family and friends with gifts they select themselves, fostering independence, especially in our youngest students.

Holiday Tea (December 18) - Following the Holiday Concert, the WSLSPA hosts a Holiday Tea. All eighth-grade students and their parents are the honored guests. This event is enjoyed by teachers, parents, grandparents and friends of the school and is the traditional start of the holiday season!

Ski Day (February 8) - On this Monday holiday, families from the Lower School can hit the slopes at a local ski resort with friends from the Sem community. Classes for children and adults are offered at a discount.

All-School Auction (April 9) - The annual auction is one of the Parents Association’s most successful fundraisers. Working together with the Upper School Parents Association, the event raises funds for the teachers’ wishlists. Parents, teachers, alumni and friends enjoy a night of fine food and drink and friendly competition in bidding for class projects and items donated from the community. Mark your calendar and attend!

Author’s Day (May 12) - Each year, the Parents Association sponsors a visiting author chosen by the teachers to foster an appreciation for fine literature and creativity. Students have the chance to work with the author in a small group setting.

Family Field Day (May 28) - Field Day is an annual Sem tradition that has evolved into a community festival of friendly competition, crafts, games, refreshments, and more.

Eighth-Grade Graduation (June 3) - The Parents Association is responsible for specific portions of graduation. These include arranging for the videotaping of the ceremony, providing the flowers and planning the party for the graduates and their parents. Each eighth-grade student is also given a framed graduation class photo.
