Music at Wyoming Seminary

Music is an important aspect of life at Wyoming Seminary, and as many as 50 percent of Sem’s students take part in musical activities. Groups such as the chorale, Seminary orchestra, and the handbell choir are popular. More experienced musicians vie for spots in the prestigious Wyoming Seminary/PAI Civic Orchestra, jazz ensemble, or the select Madrigal Singers. The Madrigals travel regionally during the year, and have won honors in international competitions. In 2006, the Madrigals toured Asia. Students whom the directors deem capable of working in an ensemble have the opportunity to play in a chamber group. Individualized lessons are available from a world class faculty in addition to the main courses of study.

At the Lower School, Sem’s music teachers are dedicated to nurturing a love for music, helping them to grow as musicians and appreciative listeners. Music is included in many primary classroom lessons and activities, and all students participate in three annual performances of vocal or instrumental (or both!) music. To expand upon the in-school music classes, after-school and before-school string instrument instruction is available beginning in first grade.
