While the number of confirmed cases of the H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu) has risen significantly during the summer months, the severity of symptoms in the majority of cases remains mild. Please be aware that Wyoming Seminary will continue to monitor the situation throughout the school year with daily updates from the Center for Disease Control and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
We will use this Web site to keep parents, faculty and students informed as the need arises.
There are a few everyday actions we can all take to stay healthy and keep the community infection free or at least reduce the number of cases and the severity of the symptoms.
Students, faculty and staff with a temperature greater than 100 degrees, nasal congestion, sore throat and cough should stay home or isolated from the community until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicines. Boarding students will be monitored by the school nurse and isolated as necessary. Day students are also encouraged to seek the advice of their family physician and report any confirmation of flu or bacterial infection to the Wyoming Seminary Health Office.
Take precautions to stay healthy: cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then dispose of the tissue.
Frequent hand washing with soap and warm water will help prevent the spread of disease. Alcohol based hand sanitizers are effective when soap and water are not available.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth to reduce the spread of germs.
Adequate sleep, nutrition and hydration will help boost the immune system. Take the time to eat well, drink plenty of fluids, especially water, and get at least eight hours of sleep per night.
As always, Wyoming Seminary is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our community. Antibacterial wipes and boxes of tissues will be available in all classrooms as well as all dormitories to help minimize the spread of germs. Feel free to contact the Health Offices if you have any questions or concerns.
