ESLI Employment Opportunities 2008

Most staff will report for training and orientation on Monday, June 23, 2008 and continue through Sessions I and II ending Friday, August 21, 2008. A few staff members remain with the program through Session III, a trip through New England including a four-day outdoor experience in Maine, ending on Friday, August 29, 2008.

For more than two decades Wyoming Seminary has been a leader in the movement to internationalize independent schools across the country. In the traditional academic year, 18% of its student body (90 students) come from 23 countries to prepare for universities around the world. Its competitive college preparatory curriculum offers ESL support through grade ten but demands mainstreaming as the student enters grade eleven.

The ESL Institute utilizes the resources of the region and campus to accomplish its three objectives: to advance the students’ English language abilities, to immerse them in American culture and to prepare them for the routine and life style of a boarding school. More than two-thirds of the Summer at Sem ESL Institute students follow their summer experience with matriculation in the fall at an American boarding school. Many come to prepare for Wyoming Seminary; others are encouraged by more than twenty other boarding schools to embark on their new language and cultural journey by first attending Summer at Sem. Three sessions offer flexible beginning and ending dates.
