ESL Events and Activities

ESL students find a variety of special events and daily activities to fill their summer afternoons with social, cultural and recreational opportunities. In a community like Summer at Sem, this also becomes a multicultural experience.

The Performing Arts

A symphony orchestra, several string ensembles, vocal groups and the jazz band rehearse in the late afternoon. Summer at Sem students may audition for these groups, all active in the Performing Arts Institute.

Sports

You do not need to be a superstar to play afternoon Summer at Sem athletics! Indeed, these activities are intended for those who need to burn off energy or wish to develop basic dexterity. International students learn the rules and skills of the more traditional American sports, while they teach the American boarding students games from their home countries.

The Fine Arts

If fine arts are of an interest to you, several afternoon courses highlighting photography, painting and visual arts are offered.

Weekends

Dances, movies, and day trips to historic and metropolitan areas are part of the weekend agenda. Students will find that the field trips add another dimension to their summer learning experience. The concert and show schedule of the Performing Arts Institute augments the summer activities calendar.
