The Wyoming Seminary Board of Trustees proudly announces the unanimous selection of Martin J. Mooney as Wyoming Seminary’s next Head of School, effective July 1, 2023.

Martin J. Mooney

Mooney is a career educator whose experience includes 20 years of work at the Peddie School — an independent boarding and day school in New Jersey — where he served in various roles, including Director of College Counseling, Dean of the Faculty and Dean of Students and Residential Life. Prior to working at the Peddie School, Mooney worked six years at the Hill School in the Alumni Office and the College Advising Office. In 2017, he was selected as the Head of School at Bridgton Academy, the role in which he currently serves. The all-male independent boarding school in Maine has seen significant improvement in enrollment and budget management under Mooney’s leadership.

Mooney received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, where he played football and lacrosse. He coached football and lacrosse during his time at Peddie and Hill, while also serving as an English teacher and dorm parent. Mooney received his master’s degree from the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College. Mooney and his wife, Dani, have three adult children, Katherine, Megan and Harry.

“As impressive as Marty’s resume is, the Search Committee was equally struck by his personal qualities,” said Bill Sordoni, Chair, Wyoming Seminary Board of Trustees. “He is an innovative, thoughtful and collaborative professional who combines integrity and humor with a fierce determination to shape the lives of his students.”

Mooney will become the 15th Head of School in Sem’s history, succeeding the current Interim Head of School, Daniel J. Rocha.

“Throughout the search process, it was apparent that the Head of School opportunity at Sem was compelling to Marty and other superb candidates,” Sordoni said. “This was a comprehensive and thoughtful process with only one goal in mind: to bring in the best person to lead our school at this important time in its history. I believe we have succeeded in our mission.”

Daniel J. Rocha, an accomplished leader and experienced senior administrator at several academic institutions along the East Coast, is serving as the Interim Head of School for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Daniel J. Rocha

Mr. Rocha is a graduate of Temple University, where he earned an undergraduate degree, and the University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained a master's in Independent School Leadership. Mr. Rocha in 2012 founded Cardenio Consulting, a Philadelphia-based firm that assists schools with organizational management and development. He also has prior experience as an Interim Head of School, filling the role in 2015-16 at the Calverton School (Maryland).
