“Dance Creations” Celebrates 45 Years of Artistry, Mentorship, and Movement at Wyoming Seminary
For 45 years, generations of Wyoming Seminary students have found confidence, creativity, discipline, and joy through dance under the direction of Bernardine Vojtko.

On Friday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 10 at 2 p.m., the Wyoming Seminary Dance Company will celebrate that extraordinary legacy with “Dance Creations: 45th Anniversary Performance,” in the Kirby Center for Creative Arts on Sem’s Kingston campus.
The performance is both a showcase of student talent and a tribute to Mrs. Vojtko’s four-and-a-half decades of dedication to dance education at Sem.
The anniversary celebration also marks the announcement of the Bernardine Vojtko Endowment for Dance, established to honor Mrs. Vojtko’s lasting contributions to Wyoming Seminary and her passion for inspiring young artists. Find out more about the Endowment here.
“Dance is for everyone who wants to explore and enjoy movement,” Vojtko said, and this philosophy has inspired students from their earliest creative dance experiences in the Lower School to advanced choreography and performance opportunities in the Upper School.
The production features a wide-ranging collection of ballet, jazz, theater dance, contemporary works, student choreography, and selections revisiting memorable performances from Sem dance history. Alumni dancers and guest artists will also return to the stage, underscoring the lifelong impact of the program and the bonds formed through it.
Among the featured works are “Five Anniversary Dances,” originally created as part of Wyoming Seminary’s 175th anniversary celebration, and excerpts from “Romeo and Juliet,” staged with choreography inspired by the legendary Sir Kenneth MacMillan. The program also revisits iconic musical theater moments from Sem productions over the decades, including selections from “Pippin,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Urinetown,” “Kiss Me Kate,” and “Footloose.”
A Sem faculty member since 1981, Vojtko has shaped the school’s dance program across both the Lower and Upper Schools, developed original curriculum, choreographed countless productions, and mentored generations of performers. Over the years, Sem dancers under her direction have performed works inspired by composers ranging from Bach and Mozart to Bernstein, Gershwin, Billy Joel, and Philip Glass.
The production also reflects the collaborative spirit of Sem’s arts community, bringing together students, alumni, faculty, guest artists, and technical crews in a performance that honors both tradition and creativity.
