In addition to our productions, Sem also offers several film and theater electives, most of which can fulfill the Arts Studio requirement and a few of which can count as English electives.

Under the direction of our Technical Director and Assistant Technical Director, students populate all of our technical crews. The students call all of the technical shots in our performances, while a student stage manager runs the show, giving direction to student light and sound board operators and students running the fly system and spotlights.

Fall Musical — A full-scale musical production is produced during the fall trimester. Students learn acting, singing and dancing for the musical stage while preparing for the performances. Recent productions include “Bright Star,” “Footloose,” “1776,” “Once Upon a Mattress” and “Urinetown: The Musical.”

Winter Workshop — The winter production is an acting workshop of one-act plays and scenes, at times including student-written or student-directed work. The workshop includes many performers and takes place in an intimate black box setting.

Spring Drama — A smaller cast production of a classical or contemporary play is featured as the spring production. Students learn additional acting techniques and work with more challenging texts as they focus on dynamic or nuanced roles in a full-length play.
