Overview
Wyoming Seminary girls tennis is a shining example of how individual growth and personal achievement, coupled with camaraderie, can elevate a team to incredible heights.
Many of Sem's best results have come in just the past few seasons.
The Blue Knights enter 2024 having won six straight Wyoming Valley Conference championships. Sem is also a four-time District 2 champion (1999, '05, '19, '21) and won the program's first PIAA state championship in 2021. The 2022 Blue Knights had a 16-1 record and won WVC Division 1. In 2023, Sem went 15-2, won the WVC and advanced to the district final.
Sem has also produced a pair of individual state champions. Nathalie Joanlanne '15 claimed the 2013 PIAA Class 2A title and Ilana Rosenthal '25 finished atop the 2022 PIAA Class 2A field. Rosenthal won her second state championship in 2023.
Sem's coaches offer personalized guidance and constructive feedback to each player, ensuring every member of the team receives the opportunity to reach their full potential.The journey of a Wyoming Seminary tennis player is not just about wins and losses, but also about growing into strong, confident and graceful individuals on and off the court.
Sportsmanship and fair play are cornerstones of Sem tennis and instill a sense of respect for opponents and deep appreciation for the game.

Raphael Cooper — Head Coach
Prior to joining Wyoming Seminary, Head Girls Tennis Coach Raphael Cooper served as head coach of the girls tennis team at Wilkes-Barre Area. In the Wolfpack's first season, they qualified for the District 2 AAA playoffs.
Prior to taking over the Wolfpack, Cooper was the head coach for the boys and girls tennis teams at GAR, where he helped transform the teams into viable and respected opponents.
Cooper, named the 2017 USTA Coach of the Year, founded the Wilkes-Barre Tennis Association in 2017. He provides free tennis instruction to youths of the Wilkes-Barre Area, within the elementary and intermediate school ages. He also founded the Quad County Classic.
Among Cooper's top accomplishments at Sem was coaching the girls tennis team in 2021 to district and state championships.
A magna cum laude graduate of Wilkes University with a major in secondary English and a minor in dance, Cooper is an English teacher in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District and also teaches in Sem's Performing Arts School.
