At Wyoming Seminary, the health and wellness of every student is crucial for their overall well-being and academic success. The Health and Wellness staff at both divisions provides encouragement for students to maintain healthy habits, including nutrition, physical activity, hygiene, positive sleeping habits and organizational techniques.
Physical, mental and emotional support is available for each student. In addition, the staff provides resources and workshops for families throughout the academic year.
Upper School Health and Wellness Center
The Shafer Health and Wellness Center is located at 219 N. Sprague Ave., across the street from Fleck Dining Hall and between Sprague Hall and the Stettler Learning Resource Center. It is open Monday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Fridays from 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.
A registered nurse is always available on call during after-hours and on weekends. The Wellness Center consists of five bedrooms and one staff bedroom and holds Sem’s Upper School nursing and our counseling departments.
Through our partnership with Pediatric Associates of Kingston, we are able to do same-day sick appointments in its local Kingston office. We also have the ability to bring a provider to campus during times of high illness. We also have accounts with a local pharmacy where we pick up prescriptions for boarding students, if necessary.
Through the Health and Wellness Center, we offer many services for our students and host a variety of educational seminars as well — such as Sunday programming for boarders, where we discuss topics such as personal safety on campus, healthy relationships, stress management, homesickness, etc. Additionally, we utilize professional organizations in our community to enhance the student experience — most notably, a sports nutritionist to speak to our student-athletes; local vendors to host our annual Stress Less Fair; the Metz culinary team to provide homemade and nutritious snacks during finals week; and many more.
Medical forms must be updated yearly and should be updated if there are any significant changes to a student’s health history or insurance information to ensure optimal care while at school. All forms and requirements can be accessed and uploaded through our online portal.
