Second grade studies microbes

The Sem second-grade class is studying microbes. Cristina Agolino, mother of second-grader Joey Agolino and Director of Aseptic Filling at Sanofi Pasteur, visited the class on Friday, September 13. The students enjoyed the story "Tiny Creatures: The World of Microbes." Ms. Agolino demonstrated proper attire for working with vaccines at Sanofi-Pasteur. The children were given the opportunity to "suit up" and prepare some agar plates in order to grow colonies of microbes harvested from surfaces in the classroom, as well as compare colonies collected from washed and unwashed hands. The lesson was a great success and we can't wait to watch our microbe colonies grow.
