Second Grade currency lesson

Alan and Polly Hughes, grandparents of Eliza H., shared their large coin collection with the second-grade class. Mr. Hughes has been collecting coins since he was a child and his family business allowed for his home to be filled with pennies. Mr. Hughes' impressive collection of U.S. coins contains some minted as far back as 200 years ago. The interest in coins for the second graders began when, during a study of currency in math class, a child asked if Mrs. Austin had any wheat pennies in the classroom.
