Second Grade Architecture Project

Marywood University School of Architecture instructor Jeff Richards, architect and father of second-grader Grace Richards, recently visited the second grade to lead the chiledren in a special project. Mr. Richards discussed the connections between the sheltering structures that animals build in the wild and the structures humans build today. The students viewed images of buildings such as the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, which Mr. Richards had the opportunity to contribute to as a professional architect. The students then built their own structures with marshmallows and dry spaghetti, and tested them against simulated seismic movement.
