Alumni News for December

Dear Alumni, Parents and Friends,

While the weather has seemed more like October than December in Northeast Pa., I’m not complaining! A white Christmas is romantic and nostalgic, but traveling is easier for everyone, including students heading home to all parts of the country and the world, when the temps are in the 50s! I wish everyone a peaceful and loving holiday season.

Don't forget, we love to hear from you so please send your class notes to jstrzeletz@wyomingseminary.org.

Holiday Gathering

More than 150 alumni, parents and friends of Sem gathered at the Westmoreland Club on December 2. For many, it was their first opportunity to meet Sem’s new president, Kevin Rea, introduced by chairman of the Board of Trustees, Richard Goldberg ’55. Prior to the holiday gathering, Sem’s Alumni Council held their annual “student grant meeting” at which they listened to students present proposals for grants awarded with funds the council raises through the Rusty Flack Open and other events.

The Alumni Council, chaired by Debbie Maseychik ’83, allocated $7,000 to student groups ranging from the Artisan Club (for art supplies) to True Blue (a Sem mascot costume for the school’s spirit club).

Pictured following their Alumni Council allocations meeting are, first row, from left: Stephen Rosenthal ’93, Kristyn Kelleher Polishan ’99, Debbie Maseychik ’83. Second row: Julie McCarthy Strzeletz ’81, Janet Flack ’67, Sara Rosenberg Molitoris ’05, Jillian Seeley ’05. Third row: Jason Nataupsky ’03Dawn Lombardo Gaudino ’87, Jennifer Eidam Davis ’94. Fourth row: Alex Flack ’05, Jason Cohen ’97, Meredith Moses Maxwell ’66, Tony Banta ’06. Fifth row: Dan Volpetti ’03, David Schwager ’80, Ryan Molitoris ’06.

Boston Gathering

On Thursday, December 3, nearly 50 alumni and faculty met at Joe’s American Bar and Grille in Boston. Sem president Kevin Rea introduced himself to the group, which ranged from recent graduates to the class of 1949. The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS) Conference was happening concurrently, so we got to see former faculty members Chris Button and Jennifer Siff. Pictured are MARY HASS ’55 and president Kevin Rea.

Wrestlers sign with colleges

In early December, senior wrestlers signed letters of intent to attend colleges and universities. The following athletes announced they will continue their academic and athletic careers at seven NCAA Div. I and one Div. II institutions: Christian Dietrich, University of Pittsburgh; William Hilliard, Old Dominion University; Gregory Kleinsmith, Kutztown University; Aaron Kliamovich, Northern Michigan University; Mason Manville, Pennsylvania State University; Trent Olson, University of Wyoming; Nicholas Reenan, Northwestern University; Michael Rogers, North Carolina State University; William Verallis, Old Dominion University; and Christopher Weiler, Lehigh University.

Christmas Chapel

On December 16 the Sem community gathered in the Church of Christ Uniting for the annual celebration of the holiday season. Listen to a performance from the Madrigal singers.
