Spring Break Fun

Enrichment

Happy New Year! The After-School Enrichment staff is excited to be offering fun classes to keep the children warm and engaged after school. Please take a look at the wonderful classes available for students from kindergarten through grade six.

Please view the most current schedule and get your registration form here.  *Please note that 'Kids Who Code" is now full, unfortunately there are no more slots available.*

"When is my child sick enough to stay home from school?"

This is not always an easy question to answer, we hope these tips can help.

A child who is ill will not be able to perform or function well in school and is likely to spread the illness to other children and staff. We suggest planning for alternative childcare ahead of time so you will not be caught without a comforting place for your child to stay if he/she is ill.

As a general rule of thumb you should not send your child to school if he/she has:

  • Fever in past 24 hours
  • Vomiting in past 24 hours
  • Diarrhea is past 24 hours
  • Chills
  • Sore throat
  • Bad cold with a very runny nose or bad cough, especially if it has kept the child awake at night.

Please click here for a more detailed explanation of our sick policy and an important message from Nurse Coons.

Thank you for helping keeping our children and staff healthy!

Get Your Game Face On!

Students in grades 1-4 are invited to a special event with Wyoming Seminary alumna Brigitte Henry Cooper '04 as she visits Lower School classes to share her debut children's book series, Game Face!

Read all about her upcoming visit here and see her titles for purchase by clicking here.

Any questions about Mrs. Cooper's visit should be directed to your child's homeroom teacher or Literacy Department Chair Kayanne Barilla.

The Great Kindness Challenge

The Lower School is participating in The Great Kindness Challenge this week. One hundred and three countries are participating in the challenge this year! During this week we are making an extra effort to create a culture of kindness and strive to "Be Kinder than Necessary." Sharing more thank-you's, smiles, helping hands, and listening time are some of the goals this week, in addition to specific grade level activities that include, but are not limited to: "Filling Your Bucket" with good deeds (grade 2); Kindness Jar (3rd grade); journaling about "doing the right thing" (grade 4); kind tasks bulletin board (grade 5), and tallying tasks on The Great Kindness Challenge checklist (grades 5 & 6). Go to The Great Kindness Challenge for more information including the event family edition.

Text Alert System

We encourage all parents to sign up for Sem's Emergency Text Alert System via this link or through the school website. Once you have completed the sign-up process, you will receive text alerts for school updates and/or weather related issues.

Please be advised that the Lower School relies on your Early Dismissal Form during any inclement weather events. If you would like to change your form, please contact the Lower School office as soon as possible at (570) 718-6600. Thank you.

Attendance

Just a friendly reminder about our attendance policies:

Middle School students should be in homeroom by 8:15 a.m. If your child arrives after 8:15 they must sign in in the office or they may be marked absent.

Students in our Primary division will be considered tardy if they arrive after 8:20. Again, it is imperative to sign in if arriving after 8:20, your child may be marked absent for the day otherwise.

As always, it is very helpful to hear from you if your child will be out or late for the day. If you are picking up your child early it is best practice to let the office know in advance.  You can reach the office by phone 570-718-6600 or e-mail jmoran@wyomingseminary.org and jkatra@wyomingseminary.org.

Thank you for your support in keeping our school safe and our attendance records accurate.

Inclement Weather

Delayed Opening: If your school district is on a delayed opening schedule, your student will be permitted to arrive in accordance with your district's announced time, whether your student rides the bus or is driven to school.

School Closing: If your school district closes your student will not be expected in school even if we are open. If you wish to transport your student in this situation, do so at your own discretion.

Early Dismissal: When we are contacted by a school district about an early dismissal, parents of children who ride the bus may expect their students to be dismissed when that bus arrives. Students who do not ride the bus but whose district is closing early may be picked up at the early dismissal time as well.

Our students' safety is our main concern during bad weather. As always, please check our homepage often and sign up for text alerts for weather-related announcements. For more detailed information about our Inclement Weather Policy, please see our Lower School handbook.
