IMPORTANT HEALTH PROTOCOLS

Dear Parents,

As we prepare to return to in-person learning on January 18, please review the following protocols that need to be followed by everyone in order to maintain the lowest risk potential for our students, faculty and staff:

* Completion of the Health Symptom Tracker is required for all students and employees prior to leaving for school each morning.

* Please keep your child home from school when sick (fever, cough, congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches, headache). Even if not Covid-related, sick children should not be in school. To that end, thank you for your understanding if we call you to come and pick your child up from school due to illness.

* If one child in the home has Covid-19 symptoms, all siblings are required to stay home from school until the sick child is cleared by the pediatrician.

* Face masks are required to be worn by all students, faculty and staff. Masks should fit snugly over the mouth and nose. Masks with valves and face shields are not permitted.

Our success in keeping Wyoming Seminary open for the remainder of the school year is dependent on the behavior of the entire school community.

THANK YOU MR. SWITZER!

For well over 4 decades, Clark Switzer has made American History come alive. Generations of students have benefited from his thoughtful and unique approach to engaging around the complexity of our nation's past. It is with profound appreciation for this service that we announce Mr. Switzer's retirement at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. While it is difficult to imagine the Lower School without him, it is awe-inspiring to consider all that he has accomplished during his stellar career. In his letter announcing his retirement, Mr. Switzer wrote:

"Since the first day I entered this building, I have strongly felt that this was my calling, my purpose, this was my place to be. I am grateful to administrators past and present that have allowed me to teach in a way that I so enjoy—telling the story of this great nation with its struggles and successes, weaving connections among the events and life of all of its people, and living history with all of the props I could stuff in the room. I have been and still am inspired by colleagues who follow the Marine ideal of improvise, adapt, and overcome. I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful parents who trusted me to do my best for their children, and it is those children that have so endeared themselves to me that I will sorely miss."

Thank you, Mr. Switzer, for all you have been, and continue to be, for our students and school community. We will miss you too!

STEAM Saturday Maker Challenge on January 9

The Louis Maslow STEM School of Wyoming Seminary is pleased to announce a Virtual STEAM Saturday Maker Challenge. The challenge and design criteria will be introduced on Saturday, January 9 at 10:00 a.m. One week later, participants will reconvene for judging and to share their creations with one another on Saturday, January 16.

This event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration will be necessary to keep the virtual attendance secure. While LEGO sets previously completed by our own Creative Building Club will be featured in the background, the creations do not need to be made out of LEGO. Any material or representation can be used, including 2D drawings and paintings.

Students will compete with one another in two age ranges:

• Grades 3 & 4

• Grades 5 to 8

Categories of the competition include:

• Creative Design

• Structures & Landscapes

• Vehicles

• Functional and Motorized

• Autonomous (programmable robotic)

• Any category above using recycled or repurposed materials

Competition Criteria:

• A submission must include original elements

• A traditional, retail, LEGO-designed set may be incorporated, but the students'
work should include original design features

• Judging criteria will include awarding of additional points for originality

• Realistic representation (if it is a bike, does it look like a bike)

• Aesthetics

SEM SKI CLUB 2020-2021

Happy 2021! The ski club at Montage will be a little different his year due to Covid restrictions. Anyone who would like to ski can do so any day this season, not only on Sunday!
