Students in grades 7-12 who enjoy learning about art, math, virtual reality and the air around us are invited to attend a spring STEM Saturday at Sem Event on Saturday, April 22. The program will be held at Nesbitt Hall, Wyoming Seminary Upper School, 201 North Sprague Ave., Kingston.

The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 11:00 a.m. and is free and open to the public.

The event will offer three stations providing an interesting variety of subjects. In celebration of Earth Day, there will be an Earth Day station that will examine air quality and particulate pollution around the world, including pollution sources and how trees reduce air pollution. Students will learn how to measure particulate and carbon dioxide levels on campus, using AirVisual Node air quality monitors.

A second station will offer an introduction to virtual reality, using Google Cardboard and PlayStation VR to explore games, movies and other content while learning about this new technology.

A third station will consider the mathematical aspects of art, illustrating how artists in the 1500s accurately used perspective in their paintings. Students will use these concepts in creating their own artworks.

This STEM Saturday at Sem event is an aspect of the STEM School's programming which includes a foundational science course for Sem freshmen as well as public lectures on issues related to science, technology, engineering and math.

The Louis Maslow STEM School at Wyoming Seminary seeks to engage and inspire students interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics through holistic and integrated paths of study. Students in the program will be prepared for collegiate study and able to respond to rapidly changing global challenges and advances in technology in today's world.
